• ProBarranquilla registered a record investment attraction amount of USD 602 million in 2023, exceeding by 130% the results obtained in 2022.
Barranquilla, April 16, 2024. Barranquilla has reached a milestone by being recognized as one of the 100 cities with the fastest growth in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) globally. This achievement places the city in the 3rd position in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to the prestigious ranking of the international magazine FDI Intelligence, affiliated to the Financial Times.
The study's methodology, based on data from FDI Markets, prioritized criterias such as annual growth in the number of investment projects, the growth rate of announced investment and jobs created by investments. Barranquilla stood out significantly in these aspects, reflecting a notable increase in its attractiveness as an investment destination.
The chief executive director of ProBarranquilla, Vicky Osorio, emphasized the importance of this recognition, which confirms the confidence of investors in our department. "Achievements like this are evidence of the collaboration between the public-private sector and academia, added to our competitive advantages such as strategic location, human talent and business infrastructure, which strengthen our core value".
In 2023, ProBarranquilla recorded a historic level of FDI, which exceeded by 130% the results obtained in 2022, with a total investment of US 602 million, thanks to the installation of 28 projects that generated 2,234 jobs.
She also highlighted the export profile of most of the projects attracted in 2023, underscoring the department's potential as a platform for expanding business markets through its logistics and port infrastructure.
In turn, Osorio acknowledged the importance of sustainability, pointing out the significant investments made in the renewable energy and circular economy sectors, in line with global sustainability trends.
